Authorities in Bali impose restrictions on mountain hiking.
Tourists in Bali will no longer be able to climb the sacred mountains
Bali Governor Wayan Koster imposed a ban on tourist activities in the mountains of Bali. He explained this decision by the fact that the mountains have a sacred meaning and their holiness must be respected. As a result, rock climbing and hiking in the mountains are now banned for both tourists and local residents.
The Governor stressed that this ban will be in place at all times, except for religious ceremonies or natural disaster relief .
Earlier, the governor also announced strict measures against illegal digital nomads working as guides on the island. In addition, he banned tourists from renting motorcycles after a series of accidents and introduced a ban on dangerous stunts.
Tourism Minister Sandiaga Uno said that the issue of a ban on visiting the mountains is being discussed with the heads of regional divisions in the government of Bali. The final decision will be announced by the governor.
