A tourist from India fell into a 20-meter gorge because he wanted to take a selfie.
How According to The Times of India, Gopal Pundlik Chavan, a tourist from Nanded, accompanied four of his friends to the Ajanta caves. When the group reached the observation deck at the Saptkunda waterfall, the friends decided to take a selfie. While taking the selfie, Chavan lost his footing and fell into a gorge adjacent to the observation deck, according to the police.
His friends immediately reported this to the authorities. The local police and the archaeological department arrived at the scene and launched a rescue operation.
It took some time for Chavan's friends and rescuers to find him. ASI staff, police, tour guides, as well as tourists helped in the rescue, they managed to extract Chavan from the gorge with ropes and harnesses.
The authorities urge tourists to be careful when visiting such places and prioritize their safety over the opportunity to do photo.
