According to the information from the Greek Ministry of Culture, the historical site of the Acropolis in Athens was closed to visitors today due to extreme heat. The work of the archaeological zone of the Acropolis was suspended at 12:00, and the resumption of work took place at 17:00. However, the sites of the Ancient Agora and Keramikos remained open, and visitors could go to the archaeological museums.

Currently, high air temperatures are observed in Greece, reaching 43°C, in some places 44°C. The authorities are taking action by closing some municipal institutions and providing air-conditioned rooms to protect the population.

The Acropolis of Athens is one of the most popular attractions in Greece. In 2019, it was visited by 3.47 million people. Despite the high temperature, huge lines continue to stand at the ticket office, and approximately 17,000 tourists come to the Acropolis area daily.
