The State Hermitage has presented to visitors a model of an ancient sanctuary from Jerusalem.
The first monument of biblical archeology presented in the Hermitage
The Hermitage presents a model of a sanctuary that was discovered in the Elah Valley near Jerusalem in 2011 .
The exhibition “The Mystery of the Sanctuary from Khirbet Qeiyafa” opened in the Apollo Hall of the Winter Palace the day before, it will last until September 24. The exhibit is about three thousand years old.
A visit to the exhibition will allow lovers of religious artifacts to learn more about the biblical history, culture and religious rites of the ancient Israelites.
During the archaeological excavations conducted in Khirbet Qeiyafa from 2007 to 2013, an ancient fortified city was discovered. According to legend, it was in the Elah Valley that the duel between David and Goliath took place.
The Hermitage collections contain many rich and varied artifacts, but there were no monuments of biblical archeology among them before. Therefore, this exposition allows us to fill the gap and reveal the secrets of biblical history and culture.
We remind you that visiting the Main Museum Complex is free every day for children under 14 years old, on Thursday for pensioners of citizens of the Russian Federation and the EAEU states, as well as on third Thursday of each month for all categories of citizens.
