The Spassky Cathedral in Penza was built between 1790 and 1824. Before the revolution, it was not only one of the main sights of the city and a magnificent architectural monument of the classicism era, but also a hallmark of the province. Unfortunately, in 1934 the cathedral was blown up.
The current building of the cathedral is not a replica of the former one, and in size the new cathedral is larger than the former — it is designed for 5,000 people. The construction of the new cathedral took place from 2010 to 2022 according to the design of the architects Kherubimov and Sitnikova.
As for the interior decoration of the Spassky Cathedral, it is made in the spirit of Russian classicism and includes plaster stucco decoration and painting.
