“Marathon in the Dark” – a unique project, which has no analogues in Russia. Starting with the preparation of one blind sports fan for a marathon, the project has turned into a large-scale work, over the years more than 2000 trainings have been held in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, more than 300 people with visual impairments have become participants in the project. Sports for Life Foundation developed his own unique methodology for training volunteer leaders (assistant to blind athletes) and a training system, more than 500 volunteer leaders were trained. “Marathon in the Dark” became an example in the charitable sector: other non-profit projects began to appear to help visually impaired, blind and deaf-blind people, as well as sports fans with disabilities.
“We help people with disabilities live full lives. We teach to think not from the position of “everyone owes me”, but “I want, I can, I do!”. We are developing inclusion in society and sports, and we are glad that more and more participants with disabilities appear at the competitions. We see that society is becoming more tolerant, and people with disabilities themselves are gaining confidence in themselves and their abilities. We thank all our partners, like-minded people, friends, volunteers – everyone who helps our foundation and the Marathon in the Dark project to promote the theme of accessibility of sports for everyone,” notes Anastasia Pletmintseva, director of the Sports for Life Foundation.
Funds to be raised as part of birthday campaigns “Marathon in the dark”, the fund will send to work with wards, children and adults with visual impairments: to conduct training, pay for halls and the pool, pay for the work of curators, prepare for the competition trips.
