The launch date of high-speed lines between Moscow and St. Petersburg has been announced

The date of high-speed rail launch has been announced between Moscow and St. Petersburg

According to RIA Novosti, the completion of construction and the launch of Russia's first high-speed railway line (VSM) between Moscow and St. Petersburg is planned for 2028. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Transport Valentin Ivanov.

A working group will be formed to implement the project, taking into account the issues of financing, development of rolling stock and the implementation of the concession. The parameters of the highway, including the implementation timeline, will be updated by the same group.

Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin approved the idea and also outlined other future directions, including Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod – Kazan – Urals and Moscow – Voronezh – Adler. The possibility of including Lugansk and Donetsk in this system is also being considered.

Recall that the high-speed railway line is a specialized electrified double-track line for trains with speeds from 200 to 400 kilometers per hour. There are no such highways in Russia yet. The first pilot project will be the HSR between Moscow and St. Petersburg, which will reduce travel time between the cities to 2 hours 15 minutes compared to the current 4 hours. Presumably, the cost of building the high-speed line will be 1.7 trillion rubles.
