Construction cost will be $2 billion.
A large airport will be built in Africa
According to information received from ATOR, a large airport is currently planned to be built in Rwanda, which will increase the number of tourists not only in this country, but throughout the African continent.
Qatar Airways will develop this aviation hub, capable of handling up to 14 million passengers a year. The facility is expected to cost $2 billion to build and is scheduled to open in 2026.
The new airport will provide links to at least 65 tourist destinations. In addition, it can become a transit hub for visiting other countries of the continent. Passengers now often have to make transfers in Europe or the Middle East before reaching neighboring African countries.
For comparison, in 2022, Sochi Airport served about 13 million passengers. Before the pandemic, the airport of Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, could receive about a million travelers annually, but its development was limited by geographical conditions, as it is located on top of a small hill.
