Iran is ready to cancel visas for Russians

The Iranian government intends to completely abolish the visa regime for Russian citizens to facilitate free travel between the two countries. This was stated by Iranian Ambassador Kazem Jalali.

The ambassador stressed that the Iranian authorities are ready to take appropriate measures and put them into practice after receiving a positive response from Russian officials.

Russia and Iran have already reached an agreement on the mutual abolition of the visa regime for tourist groups, which entered into force on 1 August. Groups of five to 50 people do not require visas for stays up to 15 days.

Last year, more than 22,000 Russian citizens visited Iran, and almost the same number of Iranians arrived in Russia — more than 20 thousand. This is three times more than tourist trips from Russia to Iran before the pandemic (2.6 thousand people).
