Dangerous giant snails in Tenerife
Last Wednesday African giant snail (Giant Achatina, Lissachatina fulica) has been found in three different locations on the island of Tenerife.
At first glance, it may seem like a harmless creature, but it's not so simple: this snail is included in the list of the 100 most dangerous species that can damage local vegetation.
Local media seems to have exaggerated somewhat, claiming that this snail can reach 30 centimeters, as scientific data indicate that adults usually do not exceed 7-10 centimeters, although sometimes they can reach a length of 20 centimeters. In any case, imagine how much vegetation it can eat.
While the experts find out if there are still snails on the island, and how they got here from Africa, they advise contacting RedEXOS by phone if you find such a snail. However, do not touch it yourself, as it can be a carrier of parasites harmful to human health.
