A tourist from Ireland seriously damaged a famous Belgian statue

According to The Collector, a tourist from Ireland smashed a famous statue near the Brussels Bourse in Belgium.

The incident took place on a day after the historic building reopened to the public after a three-year, $150 million restoration.

A man climbed atop a lion statue next to a statue of a man holding a torch. While trying to descend, the tourist broke his torch. Eyewitnesses claim that the man looked “obviously drunk.”

Repairing the statue will require about $19,000, and these expenses will be borne by the tourist himself. He was arrested immediately after the incident while he was in a restaurant nearby.
