A new hiking trail will appear on the Curonian Spit
In the Kaliningrad region, in the national park “Curonian Spit”, a trail of fairy tales will be created, said Olga Bolshakova, press secretary of the park.
She noted that the new tourist route will be located in the vicinity of the village of Lesnoy, which is the largest on the spit and has many places for receiving guests. Due to the growing tourist flow and the development of hotel services, the forest in the part adjacent to the village of Zelenogradsk faced an increase in load. Spontaneous paths began to appear, and many hollows formed along the foredune, which tourists turned into slopes to the sea.
The management of the national park was concerned about this situation. To stop this process, work began, together with the Mayakovsky Park Hotel, to create an ecological Trail of fairy tales of the Curonian Spit. The main task is to direct the tourist flow along an equipped route that will be of interest to both adults and children.
There will be benches and signs along the 2 km section, which will be created specifically for guests of guest houses and hotels and art objects based on the legends of the Curonian Spit. The trail itself will be made of geotextile covered with sand and gravel, which will compact over time to protect the soil from damage.
However, the Fairy Tale Trail will not be intended for cyclists, as a special one has already been arranged in the park for them bike path.
The Curonian Spit is the world's longest sandy peninsula with a length of 98 km. In 2000, the Curonian Spit was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. About 1 million people are expected to visit the park by the end of 2023.
