Foreigner detained while exporting an ancient value from Russia
The press service of the Far Eastern Customs Administration reported a when a Chinese citizen tried to take a five-kilogram Tula samovar of the 19th century out of Russia and was caught by customs officers.
The incident occurred during the customs control of passengers on a regular bus that was heading from Russia to China through the Pogranichny checkpoint in Primorye.
Customs officers confiscated a samovar from a Chinese citizen and opened an administrative case against him. For attempting to export valuables, a foreign tourist faces a fine of up to twice the cost of a samovar.
Earlier in July, a similar situation occurred with a Russian woman who arrived from Dubai and tried to illegally import jewelry worth eight million rubles into Moscow. The woman was stopped by customs officers at Sheremetyevo Airport while passing the “green” corridor.
